〈來自外星的奇異訊息〉曲名來自德國作家赫曼赫塞的科幻短篇小說。短篇小說裡，一位不識衝突的異星訪客夢遊充斥戰火的星球，曝露出戰爭的荒誕。
Blur 主唱「大門」曾多次談及赫曼赫塞對他的影響，而這首融合反戰意識與用藥經驗的歌曲就是一例。
歌如其名，開頭便有噪音般低沉粗糙的聲響以及難以辨識的朦朧囈語，配上沒頭沒腦、忽如其來的音符以及合成聲的使用，果然奇異陌生，像極穿越宇宙與雜訊傳來的消息。
吉他和弦反覆，鍵盤踱步於幾個音高之間，像起伏的海潮，沖刷著海灘上孤獨低吟的異星訪客。
這是《Blur 同名專輯》數一數二消極沉靜的歌曲。
直到第二段副歌後，鼓手戴夫踏著亂步，帶著 outro 的大潮湧進。烏雲般徘徊警告的低音與強風般籠罩天空的高音是滿潮之夜的風雨欲來。
然而，閃電、激浪未至，潮水已經又隨著星體的牽引退去，正如赫塞小說中的一場夢，來去無蹤，留下的浪痕僅在做夢人的腦中。
